The 9pm Couch Problem

Every working owner in trades knows this one. It’s nine at night, the tools are away, and you’re on the couch with a phone in one hand trying to sort tomorrow. Who’s qualified for the switchboard job. Who’s closest to Eastvale. Which one of these is an actual emergency and which one can slide to Thursday. Whether the hot water unit is sitting in Dave’s van or still at the supplier. And once you’ve finally worked it out in your head, you type the whole thing out again as four separate texts, and hope nobody misreads it.

That’s an hour a night of unpaid admin, done tired, with no map in front of you. It’s also where the expensive mistakes live — the apprentice sent to a job that needs a licensed sparky, the two techs criss-crossing the same three suburbs all morning, the van that turns up without the part. The Job Brain does that entire job in one click.

Plain English In, A Planned Day Out

There’s no form to learn and no fields to fight with. You type today’s jobs one per line, the way you’d say them out loud — “Burst pipe Eastvale emergency 75min”, “Switchboard upgrade Northbridge licensed 2hr needs RCDs, start 10am”, “Aircon not cooling Southgate 90min, finish by 3pm”. Then who’s working, same idea — “Marcus, senior, Electrical, Northbridge”, “Jess, apprentice, Electrical, Westhill, finishes 3pm”. If your jobs already live in another system, a CSV export drops straight in instead.

Before it plans, you tell it what matters most today on four sliders: urgency first to push emergencies to the front, cluster by location to keep each tech in one area and off the freeway, batch like jobs to group same-type work, and avoid peak-hour drives to save the long trips for off-peak windows. Different day, different priorities — a day full of breakdowns gets planned differently to a day of quotes.

One Click, And The Day Is Built

Hit Plan My Day and the Brain builds the run. Jobs are ordered by urgency, clustered by location so each tech stays in one patch, and matched to the right skill level — apprentice, qualified, or senior — so nobody gets sent to work they can’t legally do. Every route is mapped.

What each person gets is a timed run, not a list. Each job carries its start time, how long it should take, the drive time from the previous stop, the suburb, the skill level it needs, and its tags — Emergency, Standard or Flexible, plus the trade: Plumbing, Electrical, Gas or HVAC. Batched jobs are labelled as batched so the reasoning is visible. And each job has Mark done, Running late and Rebook on it, so the plan keeps up with a day that never quite goes to plan.

It flags risk before anyone leaves the yard. A job that needs a part nobody has confirmed comes up as “Parts: 250L HWS unit — confirm in van”. A job with nobody qualified rostered on gets flagged too. You find out at 9pm on the couch, not at 10am on someone’s driveway.

What The Planner Reports On A Sample Day

The planner ships with a sample day loaded so you can see it work before you type anything. On that sample data, this is what it reports:

71%
Drive time saved vs an unplanned day
3.7h
Total drive time, optimised
3
Jobs flagged at risk

These figures come from the planner’s built-in sample day, not from an audited client result. Your numbers will depend on your jobs, your crew and your patch.

Then It Goes Out To The Crew

Sent, not re-typed
The finished plan goes to the crew by email, WhatsApp or text — each person gets their own run, not the whole day’s list. No re-typing it into four separate message threads at 9pm.
Branded PDF run sheets
Or download it as a branded PDF run sheet per person — for the crew who’d rather have a printed page on the dash than another app on their phone.
Nothing leaves the device
The planner runs entirely in your browser. Your data stays on your device, and nothing is sent to any server — no account, no cloud, no database holding your job list or your client addresses.
Built for how trades actually work
Licensing levels, emergencies, drive time, parts in vans, techs who finish at three. The constraints a generic calendar app has never heard of are the ones this was designed around.

That privacy point matters more than it sounds. Plenty of trades businesses have looked at cloud scheduling tools and backed away from handing over their whole client list and job history to a platform. The Job Brain sidesteps the question entirely — there’s nowhere for the data to go, because it never leaves the machine it’s typed on.

Need something that doesn’t exist yet?

The Job Brain wasn’t bought, configured or bolted together from someone else’s app. It was designed and built from scratch, aimed at one industry’s real daily problem — and it works.

That’s the point of showing it. K Social doesn’t only assemble off-the-shelf tools and plug them into each other. When the thing your business needs isn’t on the market — because your workflow is too specific, or every tool you’ve trialled solves the wrong half of it — we can build the thing itself. A working piece of software, shaped around how your business actually runs, that you own.

If you’ve got a job in your business that eats an hour every night and no product on the market fixes it properly, that’s the conversation to have.
